Book Description. The abiding impressiveness of John Angell James’ classic on the Christian ministry lies largely in the manner in which he presents one simple idea: he argues that the effect of preaching is directly related to the heart-condition of the preacher, ‘it is feeling which gives power to words and thoughts’.

The volume is now sent forth afresh, with the earnest hope of all concerned that it may carry new life and a blessing from on high to the ministry of our American Presbyterian Church, and especially to our more youthful ministers.

EDITOR OF THE BOARD. Philadelphia, A. Page V INTRODUCTION. BY THE REV. Richard Baxter’s, “The Reformed Pastor” published by, “The Banner of Truth” is just as relevant today as it was in It is a timeless classic of Christian writing and should be in every Pastor’s library and read by every Christian.

This book was written to address problems Baxter saw with his contemporaries. A pastor can be instrumental in the edification – or the destruction – of a local church. Making the issue more complex, a pastor’s actions sometimes are counterproductive.

The fact is that the pendulum of the role of women in the church has swung too far in both directions. But where humans have failed, God promises victory, peace, and restoration.
